“PRESS RELEASE”
On March 16th, 2010 crews from Mason County Fire District 2 responded at approximately 8:30pm to a report of an upstarirs bathroom fire located at the 1100 block of Larson Lake Blvd. The two occupants, mother and daughter were downstairs and were alerted of the fire by working smoke detectors. Upon hearing the smoke detectors the occupant went upstairs and identified that her bathroom was fully engulfed in flames. Doing what every family should do, they contacted 911 and immediately evacuated the home.
Fire Engines from Mason County Fire District 2, 5, and 6 were all called to the scene. Within 6 minutes crews arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. Thanks to the quick actions of home owners, working smoke detectors and well trained and efficient fire crews, the fire was limited to the master bathroom.
The fire is currently being investigated as to the origin and cause by Mason County Fire District 2 along with the Mason County Fire Marshals Office. Initial fire damage loss is estimated to be $10,000.
Mason County Fire District 2 would like to stress the importance of working smoke detectors. This is a prime example of why smoke detectors are so important. Without working smoke detectors you are almost certain that the results of the fire would have been much more severe.
